Mothers - heroes of all times, interesting facts

by - мая 11, 2013

Motherhood is considered to be the oldest "profession" in the world. While I was doing a small research about it, with each mouse click the numbers were becoming more and more impressive.
  • Homo sapiens: 200 thousands years ago
  • Homo erectus: 2 million years ago
  • Hominidae: 15 million to 20 million years ago
  • Mammals: about 225 million years ago
And even before those times there still were "mothers", that would lay eggs and eventually take care about their descendants as well as all their contemporary counterparts do today.

So, as we see, being a mother has always been pretty popular :)
I'd like to share some interesting facts about mothers. I've actually tried to count the amount of mothers living on our planet today, and when I came to a need of  integrating (and here I mean the mathematical operation), I quit. Billion, approximately :)

The most "successful" mother ever lived is  Elizabeth Greenhill. During her life she had been in a labor 38 times. Her last son was born in 1669 and became eventually a famous surgeon. Elizabeth wanted two or three kids more, but her husband died and her plans were unfortunately ruined.

The youngest mother in a history is considered to be Lina Medina from Peru. In 1939 in the age of 5 years 7 month and 17 days she gave birth to a boy (2.7 kg). He was raised as her brother and died in the age of 40 because of the bone marrow disease. Lina lives today in a poor district of Peru, and has never told anyone about her son's father.

The oldest mom today is Omkari Panwar from India. In 2008 she gave birth to a boy and a girl by emergency Caesarean section. By that time she was 70 years old, her husband was 77.

Turns out that the absolute record in giving birth belongs to the first wife of Russian peasant Fedor Wasiliev. During 1725-1765 she gave birth 27 times, and has given birth to 69 children. She had four quadruplets, seven triplets and sixteen twins, so she had never given birth to one child. Interesting thing is that only two of those children died during labor, and that after this women's death her husband Fedor had another wife, and she gave him "only" 18 children.

Every year on the second Sunday of May we celebrate the Mother's Day. This is the day when we should say "Thank you, mom, for everything. Literally. Because if it wasn't you, I wouldn't stay this high, I wouldn't think this way, I wouldn't achieve all of this, I wouldn't even be alive. You gave me everything at the beginning, and I'll be by your side until the end. I love you."

Having a mom means a lot. Being a mom means everything.
